This house has a life
Making it a home
Drinking coffee
I gaze out the window
Oh, we don't have much, but it is more than enough
This house has a heartbeat making it a home.
Babies grow up quicker
Than you would ever believe
One day suckling milk
The next their bouncing on your knees
We don't have much, but it is more than enough
This house has a heartbeat making it a home.
Oh, we don't have the best oven
But still it bakes the bread
Being able to make the best of it and make do
Is still a reason that I fell and stayed in love with you
Cats walk in
or dart from room to room
Break your favourite mug
Curl up and purr on you
We don't have much, but it is more than enough
This house has a heartbeat making it a home
Oh, we don't have the best oven
But still it bakes the bread
Being able to make the best of it and make do
Is still a reason that I fell and stayed in love with you

Guide Me Home

The bright lights of Südvorstadt make me want to stay out and that is a good sign
Tell me what bar you are in
I'll meet you there and get us a round in
Let me finish work, unlock my bike
I'll be right over
Tonight could be the night we find it all
and a four leaf clover
…
Bright lights of Plagwitz guide me home
Bright lights of Lindenau
Guide me home
Momentarily I'll stop atop a bridge on Karl-Heine Straße
Watching the Elster below
I love how it flows like a vein through the city
Being homeward bound in the early hours when there is no crowd
Remind me how as a boy I wept
Longing for a city on his doorstep
Clara Zetkin guide me home
Sachsenbrücke guide me home
Felsenkeller guide me home
Zum Wilden Heinz guide me home
Bright lights of Plagwitz guide me home
Bright lights of Lindenau
Noch besser Leben
Guide me home
Oh your golden, golden walls are like a runway to a jet plane
and the streets between dusk and 5
a magnet for poets, artists, waifs and strays
Clara Zetkin guide me home
Sachsenbrücke guide me home
Zum Wilden Heinz guide me home
Noch besser Leben guide me home
Bright lights of Plagwitz guide me home
Bright lights of Lindenau
Guide me home

Learning To Breathe

Many a man have stumbled and fallen
into a rut, off a cliff or in love
I walked a path that without my knowing
led me to a country that I didn’t grow up in
It led me to an oak tree blocking the road
Fallen through age, but in a storm of woe
I counted the rings of its trunk
It lived through wars and had probably seen it all
Lucky for me my past and my present are split
like the tree, in two halves and i can admit
look like heaven or hell at first, but
I am not cursed
So let me,
Open up the windows and let the new year in
Open up the windows and hope the fresh air blows away my sins
Open up the windows and let reality regain it's grip on me
I’m learning to breathe
After some years I saw I was a recluse
My reflection replied “who or what are you?”
Mirrors lie sometimes, but nope, not today
Worker Bee wants complacent me out of the way
Too much distraction in late night TV
I’ll kick a habit by going cold turkey
Give me a pen and i’ll write on anything
Give me a break and i’ll fly to England
Secrets i’ll take with me to my grave
A small price to pay for satisfaction these days and
As I draw my last breath
I'll picture you there
So let me,
Open up the windows and let the new year in
Open up the windows and hope the fresh air blows away my sins
Open up the windows and let reality regain it's grip on me
I’m learning to breathe
The washing machine is on a constant cycle
but never quite seems to clean the dirt from your mind
Look to the future with a positive outlook
Forget the dirty laundry trailing behind
So let me,
Open up the windows and let the new year in
Open up the windows and hope the fresh air blows away my sins
Open up the windows and let reality regain it's grip on me
Sink its teeth back into me
I’m learning to breathe
